The Pentagon is off the hook at least for the time being for planning President Trumps display of military might down Pennsylvania Avenue.
Trump cancelled his desired military parade after its $92 million price tag leaked to the media, blaming D.C. officials for the high cost and saying hed attend a parade in Paris and one at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland instead.
The cancellation lifts a burden off the Pentagon, which would have had to divert resources for a parade as it works to recover from what it has described as a readiness crisis.
Its a prospect that put defense hawks at unease.
I dont think its a good idea, Rep. Scott Taylor (R-Va.) said Friday morning on CNN, after the Pentagon postponed the parade but just before Trumps tweet. Were still at war right now. And I serve a district that has more military veterans than any district in the nation, and our families have been shouldering a burden for over 17 years. I just dont think this is a good call. The war hasnt ended yet.

(82,849 posts)I note Rep. Taylor courageously coming out to say what a terrible idea the parade was . . . once it's been called off. Although I'm a bit surprised that he remembered that we've been at war since this year's crop of incoming college freshmen were born. That's not something Republicans usually bring up.

(24,686 posts)If they'd like to spend hours, polishing brass, shining shoes, cleaning weapons, getting inspected, getting herded into buses, standing in formation waiting, more standing in formation waiting, and maybe adding some more waiting, ...
Eventually his Trumpness will appear, with that Mussolini pout, and the parade can happen.
Yes, sign me up, I'd love the standing around waiting parts.

(16,159 posts)for all those busy seamstresses and fake medal crafters in China or Bangladesh who were chosen to create Trumpy's "costume" for the parade. Well, if they reschedule it for next year, maybe he can borrow Sheriff Clarke's.
