I've had the pleasure of meeting her and telling her how much she's inspired me since I first heard her. Interestingly, she doesn't just absorb a compliment without making you justify it. She wanted to know how she inspired me and what I did with it. Did I do good works? Did I inspire others and pass it on? She didn't sign my copy of her autobiography until I provided satisfactory answers. Joan...always the teacher!

That signed book is in my "burn bag" - the bag I'd grab if I had to escape a fire. It's a treasure to me.

I first hear her name during my first bit of activism back in 1962. I was plugged into the boat aspect of Project Everyman because Art Piver was a close friend of our family and I was totally into what they were planning to do. Like a good teacher, he gave me full run to inspect and watch everything that was happening. Pretty heady times for a ten yer old.

37. Hey, a million thanks for posting this.

Hadn't heard it, but it is spot-on, and so very "Joan". I've been a fan since she first hit the music scene back in the 60s, and have several of her albums, which I'll never get rid of. I became aware of her via the Time magazine article where she was described as "palpably nubile." Sent me straight to the dictionary, promptly bought Album #1, and have been hooked ever since. Saw her perform solo in Denver, later with Bob Dylan in Seattle. I frequently watch all her videos, plus her 75th birthday program on NPR, etc., and am hoping like crazy I'll have the chance to watch her perform in person before I depart the planet.

That voice and that incredible woman--boy, have we been blessed!
