(In response to Trump's Tweet:
Some members of the media are very Angry at the Fake Story in the New York Times. They actually called to complain and apologize - a big step forward. From the day I announced, the Times has been Fake News, and with their disgusting new Board Member, it will only get worse!)

The concept of SATIRE seems to be difficult for some to grasp.
Some months ago I had a post hidden because of it...
I mean there is subtle satire, and then there is... this..

(10,173 posts)In these current times, I think people's satire detectors have been shot to hell.
MyOwnPeace
(17,533 posts)I think the "detectors" have been overloaded because so much of what IQ45 says and does leaves one thinking: "Did he REALLY say/do that?"

(9,527 posts)Satire is hard when what should be absurdly impossible is in fact actually possible. Like say an idiot like Trump being president.

(24,324 posts)I tell you, occasionally I have seen something that SHOULD be from THE ONION or BOROWITZ or such, and it turns out to be real. THIS is the intent of the russians, in this case, or anyone or group of authoritarians trying to destroy a society and then take over.

(11,247 posts)When Obama was POTUS, we didn't have to check a source to know if something was satire or not.
malthaussen
(18,558 posts)With someone like Donald Trump taken seriously, "satire" becomes an even more slippery concept than it was. And it does kind of deflate the effect by labelling it "satire" when written.
But, as a Latin teacher once told his student, "Juvenal doesn't write nonsense," so when a writer of J.K. Rowling's ability appears to make "mistakes," one should probably look a little deeper than the surface. That, I'll grant you, is something that is sorely missed these days.

(6,288 posts)Anyone ever notice this? Its especially true when hes talking about women. He brags about people begging him for a job, or forgiveness. Its always people who slighted him - its his sadistic power fantasy. He portrays his enemies as meek subjects who fall to his feet, pleading for his forgiveness.
Trump is a mentally ill, Fascist man. His mindset is fascinating and terrifying at the same time.

It'll go right over Trump's head, but it certainly didn't go over mine. Bravo, Ms. Rowling. Bravo.
