It would seem the Russians went all out to compromise this guy, who apparently followed along willingly. Putin must have plenty on him.

(6,212 posts)just like he did with the pussy tape. Again, it would be his usual fake news excuse. To me that interview is pretty damning.

(47,431 posts)is one of his many shortcomings. He just couldn't resist bragging about how important he was and his involvement with very powerful people. It is no wonder he is so nervous right now. He knows there is a very long and incriminating Russia-Trump trail and in most cases, he was the one leaving the breadcrumbs.

(47,431 posts)and I just heard about it recently. It really does not reflect well on our media during the campaign. Instead of airing every single minute of every stupid Trump rally, perhaps they should have been digging into Trump's past, something that was open and public. They often were too busy looking for ratings instead of truth. Then in an attempt to not appear god-forbid LIBERAL, they had to go after Hillary's emails and make it into a scandal that it wasn't. They let republicans bully them into false equivalency stories. That's not journalism, its extortion.
Fortunately, many are making up for it now. Obviously nothing was ever gained by catering to the right and the very existence of a free media is now at risk.

(22,976 posts)Were at the point now where there are at least two parallel versions of reality running side-by-side:
1) The real truth, based on provable facts, experience and trends;
2) The artificial truth, based upon outright lies, distortions, and spat forth on an hourly basis by the usual media suspects. In this version, Trump is a heroic figure, fighting for all REAL Americans (read: white).
There will be no quick and easy way out of this colossal mess. Even with Trump gone, he and his cadre will never capitulate. Theyll be braying away on Fox or whatever.
But I think there is a peak Trump moment out on the far horizon, where some (one hopes many, but at least a crucial few) folks are just plain exhausted by Trump and will do the right thing in at the polls in November.

(47,431 posts)There are people who will hate to admit they were wrong, but will do the right thing publicly and there are politicians who became Trump enablers, who will find ways to blame someone else for their betrayal of country.
One thing that is very important is how journalists and politicians behave in the aftermath. Will journalists go back to their old lazy tactics looking for fame, access, and ratings? And will politicians let the criminal and corrupt off the hook yet again, so they can come back later down the road. The fact that so few were held accountable for the Bush years only encouraged every dishonest grifter to go into politics and finance, as you can do anything and nobody goes to jail. We need to make the punishment for betrayal of the American people by a public servant 2nd only to a capital offense.
I am still bitter about the Bush years and if some of those people had been treated more harshly, perhaps some of the current players might have sought out a different gig.
