Trump's epic Mueller gamble

Jonathan Swan, Mike Allen 3 hours ago

Several top White House officials thought then and think now that President Trump made an epic error in rolling over to cooperate with Robert Mueller in the early stages of the special counsel investigation.

Why it matters: Trump himself thought then and thinks now that he personally has nothing to lose because he personally did nothing wrong. Who’s right might very well decide the fate of the Trump presidency.

One source close to the Trump team told us the full acquiescence to Mueller was "dumb" and "idiotic."

A top source said White House counsel Don McGahn and his lawyer, William Burck, never thought it was a good idea to cooperate the way Trump has, but realized they had no choice once the decision was made.

The White House made an epic gamble to try to placate Mueller rather than fight him:

It makes it impossible for Trump to correctly perceive reality.

He has done it so many times as a businessman he really thinks it will work this time too.

for his entire life... tax evasion, money laundering, receipt of stolen property, bribes, etc.

I'm sure he thought nothing of dealing with Putin to win the election, especially if it was done "one off" ( by someone close to him but not by himself )

And firing people trying to investigate things... well, that is just something that monarchs do, right?

.....Trump thinks that he can outthink Mueller....

.....That he/Trump is smarter than Mueller..and will beat Mueller in this game.

It is like a very promising minor league player, who has hit a few homers in the lowest level of minor leagues ...over confident..and stupid.

..........How would that player do against the very best Major League pitcher in a major city?

...........that minor league player, who has never even seen the top minor league pitchers,Hasn't even been to the triple A level.., not even double AA, comes up, somehow, and faces Sandy Koufax in his prime..What do you think?

Trump thought he could bullshit his way out of this. And if he couldn't,he thought he could cut a deal of some sort, might cost him a few bucks, but what the hell. After all,he is nothing more than a cheap hood.
