...She was a sweetheart, and very intelligent, got to be 97 years old before she decided to stop taking her medicines.
This was in the early 1990's.
She was never senile, always there, only issue at times was her selective hearing. But it was a minor issue.
She had lived through both World Wars, lost her husband early, and both of her sons prematurely.
I would sit with her in her retirement home in Stuttgart, Germany, a very nice one they had put her up in.
She always wanted to watch the news on TV with me.
And then came the refrain, always during the news, in her well articulated German (translated here):
"Never trust the Russians!"
(she was a hoot!!!!)
