10. He meets the profile of an abuser

A long time ago, when I was very young, I was in an abusive relationship. If something was clearly yellow, it was red to him. He would insist it was red to your face, in spite of all of the evidence. And having the power to beat you down physically and verbally, he would wear you down. This is Trump's tactic, it's called "gaslighting" and it's done to wear you down.

Trump's defenders continue to do so because they grew up in authoritarian churches and family systems. The Republican Party is authoritarian. They are the "betas", conditioned to respond to the dominant gestures of an alpha. They think they need an authority figure to tell them that what is yellow is red, and if he says it, they believe it.

What's most loathsome is that he knows this tactic works with his following. He's doing it on purpose. He did it with the birther crap. Give me a break, he knew it was crap, he did it to gain more support.

These people are so accustomed to authoritarian, paranoid and racist systems that they can't get "outside" the situation to see it for what it is.
