deadly crash.. 18 year old youtube star drove his McLaren 100 MPH wrong way on freeway

An 18-year-old believed to have caused a deadly wrong-way crash on a California freeway was identified Friday as Trevor J. Heitmann, a YouTube personality who had a large audience and customer base in the video game industry.

Heitmann died when the 2014 McLaren 650S he was driving entered the wrong way on the northbound 805 freeway in San Diego and collided with a 2010 Hyundai SUV carrying a 43-year-old woman and her 12-year-old daughter. They both died in Thursday's fiery crash.

Heitmann was a San Diego resident, officials said, and a local private school, La Jolla Country Day, lists him as a former student. The names of the mother and daughter were being withheld by authorities until their family could be notified.

An 18-year-old man has died along with a woman and her 12-year-old daughter after he crashed a McLaren into their vehicle while driving 100mph in the wrong direction on a California highway.

None of the victims from Thursday's crash have been identified formally but friends have identified the man as popular YouTuber and gamer McSkillet who was banned from trading "skins" for the popular video game Counter Strike Global Offensive (CS: GO) earlier this year. His real name is Trevor Heitmann.

The ban meant he lost around $100,000 in virtual inventory which he could have sold, according to his fans and gaming industry pundits, reports Daily Mail.

On Friday, he drove his McLaren 650S in the wrong direction down I-805 HOV in San Diego at 4.30pm.

Thirty minutes earlier, witnesses saw a teenage boy in a black McLaren smash through the gates of an elementary school. No one there was hurt.

According to police, the teenager was driving southbound in the northbound lane of the highway when he plowed into the woman's 2010 Hyundai SUV.

Witnesses who saw him plow his vehicle through the gates of Ashley Falls Elementary School said they were afraid he was trying to hurt children.

"I was worried he was going to hit the two people standing at the gate.

"They stood in the middle trying to stop him, doing hand motions but he didn't stop at all. If they didn't move they would've got run over.

"He didn't stop his car, he just kept accelerating and the gate busted open when he hit it," Alec Galloway told Fox News.

Friends and fans of the YouTuber have paid tribute to him since the news emerged and assigned blame for his death with Valve, the company which banned him from trading.

California Highway Patrol also confirmed that Heitmann was involved in two incidents leading up to the deadly crash.

Police first responded to the teen's home on Sea Knoll Court late Thursday afternoon after his father called police about the teen speeding away from the house, hitting another family car in the process.

Then, about 30 minutes before the freeway crash, the McLaren smashed through a gate at Ashley Falls Elementary School in the Carmel Valley area before speeding off, according to San Diego police. Witnesses reported seeing the driver of a black sports car slam through the gate, get out of the car, smash a window on a school building and speed out of the campus parking lot.

I don't think 18 year olds should have these expensive suicide cars, or in this case, murder-suicide.

And the most skilled players have made millions of dollars and developed worldwide followings, streaming their games on YouTube.

I can see how banning him from the game that made him famous made the teen suicidal. It was his life, and his life had been taken away...sad life that it was.

Honestly, if it weren't for school, I think a lot of these boys would never leave their computers all day. It is a frightening phenomenon. They don't really socialize in person with friends, they don't learn about the world and they certainly don't get any exercise.

Sounds like another very sad case of too much, too soon, and too young.

Which was used for gambling by children.

Preying on the weak.

His $100k collection of skins was blocked by Steam because he accidentally set up a trading bot on his main account, indicating that he was in deep with the CSGO trading / buying / selling community.

Apparently he saw a sign that said "steam" on it at a school before his suicide run.
