Mitt Romney, battered by Democratic attacks over his Bain Capital record and taxes, is calling on President Obama to agree to a truce over his business career.
Our campaign would be helped immensely if we had an agreement between both campaigns that we were only going to talk about issues and that attacks based upon business or family or taxes or things of that nature, Romney said, according to excerpts of an upcoming interview with NBCs Chuck Todd released Friday.
Romney said he would prefer the campaigns only talk about issues, and claimed that our ads havent gone after the president personally.
We havent dredged up the old stuff that people talked about last time around. We havent gone after the personal things.
Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul offered up a broader take on whether Romney was really suggesting that his career at Bain Capital the crux of his argument that he is better equipped to handle the economy should be considered off-limits.

They have to be kidding. Did they not see or hear or condone this:
Romney launches character offensive against Obama
(CBS News) BOSTON - The Romney campaign on Friday launched a character offensive against President Obama and his allies, arguing that a recent ad by a pro-Obama super PAC crosses a line and diminishes the office of the presidency.
The ad from Priorities USA Action, which had not yet run as of Friday, insinuates that presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney was indirectly responsible for a woman's death from cancer. Eric Ferhnstrom, a senior adviser to Romney, accused the Obama campaign of lying to the public about the ad.
"They've gone from what started as petty distortions and untruths to unbelievable exaggerations that diminish the office of the president and insult the American people," Fehrnstrom told reporters during a briefing at Romney's Boston headquarters. "I don't think a world champion limbo dancer could get any lower than the Obama campaign right now."

Yeha, probably NOT, Mitt.

(26,219 posts)He is really out of his element. Never had to be accountable to anyone before, surrounded by yes-men and entitled to anything he wanted. Dude thought he was just going to buy the whitehouse and have his staff move him in. None of his counter-attacks are landing, so now he wants to cry because his campaign staff is made up of cronies who have no idea how to run a national campaign.
I love it.

(3,578 posts)How has the Obama campaign attacked his family?
By pointing out that his father released many years of income tax returns?
By noting the large tax deduction he took for his wife's dressage horse?
I guess he construes those as attacks on his family.

(128,827 posts)or is he that stupid to think that people who are not cartoon characters like himself are going to fall for this? Besides, his Super PACs are gearing up for a $100,000,000 spend (and the rest of the money will evaporate in his pockets from his Ponzi scheme campaign).

Did you ask the Olympians at the Utah Games to applaud the people that helped them "get where they are today," because they "didn't do it all by themselves"?

(118,609 posts)I still think there is nothing major to be found in Romney's taxes. It is all just to bait obama into frothing at the mouth over Romney's taxes... and then Romney will release boring taxes that show he paid 15% over the years.. and it will make Obama look foolish. Again and again it is republicans who start the news cycle of Romney's income taxes. And if Romney comes out with clean income taxes at the end of it - or when Obama has bitten the bait - it will be a non issue, Obama will look foolish and a whole lot of time that could have been spent on Obama attacking Bain will have been lost. I mean we were almost not talking about Romney's taxes yesterday and looky-see: Romney brings them up again in a way that makes him look weak.
