Donald Trump bizarrely claimed to remember the start of World War II in a tense phone call with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the Washington Post reports.
In the tense June call, Trump told Abe that I remember Pearl Harbor, referring to the attack that brought the United States into the Second World war, which concluded before Trump was born in 1946.
Trumps rant was part of a blistering critique of Japans economic policies, sources told the Post and complained that the Japanese dont buy as many American goods as Americans buy Japanese goods.
The meeting, which left Abe exasperated, epitomized the paradoxical nature of Trumps closest relationship with a foreign leader, the Post reports.

I was born in 1945, right around the time of the Hiroshima bombing. I was alive at the time, but have no memory of it, of course. Trump's grasp of history is deeply, deeply flawed.

Exclusive: Trump invokes War of 1812 in testy call with Trudeau over tariffs

(CNN) President Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had a testy phone call on May 25 over new tariffs imposed by the Trump administration targeting steel and aluminum imports coming from Canada, including one moment during the conversation in which Trump made an erroneous historical reference, sources familiar with the discussion told CNN.
According to the sources, Trudeau pressed Trump on how he could justify the tariffs as a "national security" issue. In response, Trump quipped to Trudeau, "Didn't you guys burn down the White House?" referring to the War of 1812.
The problem with Trump's comments to Trudeau is that British troops burned down the White House during the War of 1812. Historians note the British attack on Washington was in retaliation for the American attack on York, Ontario, in territory that eventually became Canada, which was then a British colony.

(68,816 posts)Pearl Harbor and the Explosions was a musical act from San Francisco, California. Forming in 1978, the new wave band had limited success in the late 1970s and early 1980s, with their debut single, "Drivin'", reaching the lower end of the American top 40 charts in 1980. That same year, they released a self-titled LP which included the song "Shut Up and Dance", which received considerable airplay, particularly in the Bay Area. The vocalist, Pearl E. Gates (also known as "Pearl Harbor", and later "Pearl Harbour" (British and Canadian spelling), would eventually marry Clash bassist Paul Simonon. Gates had been a part of the Leila and the Snakes live shows, prior to forming the band. After Gates left the band, the remaining members, Peter Bilt and the Stench brothers (stage names for John and Hilary Hanes) performed as Peter Bilt and the Expressions.

The Republicans who control Congress are aware of this, and do nothing. The media watch Trump's mental decline and Congress' inaction, and report nothing. Now you know how it happened in other countries.
