We might remember that Nixon's re-election was the biggest landslide in history, and...

it took him a year into his second term to fuck up not quite as badly as Trump has less than halfway through his first.

Nixon even had a few legislative and foreign policy successes before he went down. If he wasn't such a prick, he could have been a decent President.

And never forget that we impeached Clinton over a blowjob-- there is so much more here.

So much more.

Not enough of them or in positions of power.

Rules apply to democrats and simply do not apply to republicans, been that way for a long time.

Anyway, I suppose my point is that we are in one of the low points in our history.

Maybe not the lowest, but one might think that after all this time we should be doing better.

I am certain the GOP is unable now to do the right thing, ever.

I am certain rump will call for martial law whether he can effect it or not

I am certain he will continue to call for violence as he did with the evangelicals

I am certain there is no depth he and the current GOP wont stoop

There were at least 3 Democrats who would have beaten Nixon in 1972, but they were all taken down by dirty tricks and/or ratfucking by the GOP. So who was Nixon's opponent? Senator Nobody from Nowhere, South Dakota. Nothing against McGovern but he was a patsy and had no chance against the incumbent President.

Besides that, NOBODY PAID ATTENTION TO THE NEWS ABOUT WATERGATE UNTIL AFTER THE ELECTION. Sorry for the all-caps, but I cannot stress this enough. The Watergate break-in happened in June 1972, Woodward and Bernstein were writing the story within less than a week after it happened. The story was covered in WaPo and Newsweek magazine on a regular basis but Nixon of course denied everything. Nixon convinced people that if you believed the stories about Watergate, you must be a disloyal American. The Silent Majority - including most of our parents and most American voters - bought it!

It was the Baby Boomers who kept up the protests and wanted him out. That's why he was re-elected in a landslide. The 1972 election should have never counted because it was a travesty. Just like 2016.

Trump would prefer the entire concept of America be taken down. (Outside the money, that is)
