Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Kansas and Oklahoma

Last edited Tue Aug 28, 2018, 11:35 PM - Edit history (1)

I just have to point out that there's a chance each of those states may soon have a Democratic governor.

It's not likely that all 5 will, and it would be devastating if we lose all 5 of those races. But it's pretty remarkable that they could each have a Democratic governor.

Edit: I regret that I hadn't included Arizona.

Oklahoma is as red as you can get and the Rethugs chose a horrible pick for their candidate for Governor. Stitt will try to tell you that he is a "successful" businessman, outsider who will clean up state government. Gee, where have we heard that before? I think that the guy is most likely a crook and Trump on a smaller scale.

The guy they shot down, Mick Cornett, was a fairly successful Mayor of OKC. Had he eventually been elected Governor we probably could have survived him. I think that Stitt, if he wins, will just make things a whole lot worse.

I will be voting for Drew Edmondson but every Democratic candidate always has a long upward climb. Okies are just not that bright when it comes to voting for Rethugs.

In mid 90s OK GOP sent out flyers that we should elect GOP candidates because they stood for basic OK values.

How true! GOP, the Jim Crow party!

...I can see ranking Oklahoma as the most likely to elect the Democratic candidate. I expect all 5 of those races to be close.

Winner: Oklahoma Democrats

Oklahoma has long been one of the most conservative states in the nation, but its incumbent Republican governor is arguably the least popular governor in America thanks to years of budgetary crisis driven by tax cuts and mismanagement of unpredictable fossil fuel revenue.

Consequently, Democrats managed to flip four state legislative seats in special elections last year and for the first time in years have hopes of winning a statewide race. Further bolstering those odds are the fact that they have a strong candidate for governor in the form of former Attorney General Drew Edmondson.

Oklahoma Republicans, meanwhile, almost got a strong recruit of their own in former Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett. Cornett ran the state’s largest city for 14 years and his record of proven electoral success in Democrats electoral base is exactly what the doctor ordered to keep the state in Republican hands.

But instead, the state’s Republican voters chose Tuesday night to nominate Kevin Stitt, a businessman who argued the state needs an outsider to clean up the mess and accused Cornett of running OKC as a “sanctuary city.” Polls show Edmondson narrowly ahead of Stitt in a head-to-head matchup, while he’s well behind Cornett.

about turning the OK Governor's Seat blue. The fact that the Rethugs turned away from what was actually a fairly good candidate in Cornett to vote for a Trump wannabe (alleged successful businessman, outsider, that will clean up OK State Govt) should indicate to you that OK Rethugs are not the brightest bulbs in the tulip patch. Trump is not on the ballot in November. The OK Rethugs who still support Trump will vote Republican in November and even the Rethugs that I know who dislike Trump will vote Republican in November. Unless the Republican vote count goes down and the Democrats & Independents get out in droves and vote Democrat I doubt that OK will go blue. Remember, this is the state that consistently voted for Inhoffe, Langford, Fallin and Pruitt (among many other atrocious candidates).

I would love for Drew Edmondson to win the Governor's race but I won't hold my breath.

but many of us are weary as kkkobach is the secretary of state and controls the election process.

He was caught out right cheating in his primary.

Nothing was done about it either

but we have a spoiler. The same guy who gave us Pat Roberts again is back to spoil this one. Normally I am OK with people wanting to run but there is no reason for this and am not entirely sure why he is running. He also had some very questionable, in fact proven impossible names to give him the in to run. With him out of the race Laura would beat Kobach. With him in the race it is almost a tie between Kobach and Kelly.

I hope we can win this. Laura would be fabulous as Governor but this state..."Kobach is famous, everyone knows him and he could be OUR Governor. Trump likes him, Brownback likes him"....on and on. Without looking beyond Fox and the local church they do not even know what Kobach is about. Even if they did I just have little hope they will vote for a Dem. It will be Kobach or Orman I fear. I think Laura Kelly could have made some major inroads if she did not have to work against 2 of them.

Still gonna work as hard as we can.
