FLIPPABLE: Steve Friedman for FL-HD120
Captain Steve Friedman is passionate about family, Florida, and fishing. He and his wife Kristine have lived in the Florida Keys for 18 years and have chosen Islamorada as a home to raise their two young children, Ben and Sidney.
As a professional fishing guide for 18 years, Captain Steve has had the privilege of being able to make a living working on the water. He has a keen understanding of how a robust environment propels a robust economy.
He has witnessed a change in his Florida Bay office over the course of his career, and as a consequence of the 2015 seagrass die-off stepped into the role of community spokesperson and leader to advocate and press for smart policy dictating Everglades Restoration.
Captain Steve earned a bachelor's degree from Drake University, double majoring in Spanish and Latin American Studies. He also has a masters degree from the University of New Mexico in Latin American Studies, with an emphasis in Political Science and Community and Regional Planning. He traveled to Latin America for 5 summers working with a public health program in Paraguay, Mexico, and Ecuador and studied for a semester of college in Costa Rica. He considers these experiences as some of the most formative in shaping his outlook on the world and the role he can play in creating change.
