The president of Canadas largest private sector union said Friday that U.S. workers would "suffer massively" if President Trump imposes additional tariffs on automobiles for the U.S. ally.
A 25 percent tariff would be devastating for the auto industry in Canada," Jerry Dias, the head of Unifor, said on CNBC. "But it would be also devastating for the U.S. workers as well because Canada would be forced to retaliate.
"
He added that U.S. workers will suffer massively" if Trump goes through with the tariffs.
Why? Because 60 percent of all parts that go into Canadian assembled vehicles come from the United States" he said. "The number one export market for vehicles from the United States is Canada. Why Donald Trump would shoot himself in the foot and, more importantly, American workers doesnt make any sense.
