(11,885 posts)To instill the idea people have been victims, and are being victimized by everyone in our present government. Trump then claims to be the only one who can fix it, which is a big lie, because he's selling us out because of his becoming their puppet, and has no choice.

(5,813 posts)with MAGA stitched on them, that Americans of all stripes should have been insulted. How dare he tell us we are not a great country? Yes, we have our sins and bad decisions to atone for, but all in all millions of us live a pretty decent life. There are those who dont and it would be wrong to sugar coat that but all around the world there are places where it is not perfect. But the people there do the best they can. So it is with America. Not perfect but it is our country, our birthplace (or adopted home). The next time tRump starts in with that tired, untruthful rhetoric, it needs to be met with stone silence and steely eyed glares. It is wrong for him to denigrate us that way and has been all along. It still floors me that people in his audience would go along with that crap. Have someone insult you to your face and then cheer for the guy....Talk about sheep....

(14,494 posts)True Republicans of today's political scene see what makes America great through a totally different lens than most everyday Americans. The Repugs I'm speaking of are the plutocrats and the people they have elected to office.
High-level republicans see America only as a means to achieve wealth and to build an authoritarian, hierarchical conservative power structure that gives them total control. They act as if that is a birthright for them, and only them.
Everyday Americans see America in the traditional working people's sense - a means to achieve a stable, happy lifestyle with no expectations of political power other than through their votes. And, most also see it as a vast, beautiful and resourceful land that we can enjoy and use, but also protect with great care.
Republican are indeed grossly abusing this phrase, just like they have with many others........
