Descartes is quoted as saying "I think therefore I am"

He would be better understood if he was quoted as saying "I doubt therefore I know".

It is in doubting that we learn and that is what diatinguishes us in this great battle from an adversary that entreats people to refuse to accept things that are presented clearly in black and white before them.

That is the basic difference and why we can be confident we are right, because we pause to doubt and self reflect.
