An Obama blowout is now a real possibility

Romney picking Paul Ryan as his running mate may be the most idiotic mistake made by a presidential candidate in a long, long time (except for Palin, but McCain was bound to lose regardless). I'm still in shock. This is a wonderful thing for the Obama campaign. This is a chance to completely discredit the Tea Party and the far-right and their ridiculous Ayn Rand fantasies. Now that the creator of the Ryan budget is Romney's VP pick, his wacko ideas are essentially being endorsed by Romney and being put front-and-center. Do you think people are cool with destroying Medicare as we know it? Hell no. Do they like gigantic tax cuts for the rich? Hell no. Do they like cutting government spending at levels never seen in modern politics? Hell no.

What once seemed like a very close, tight race now looks like it could turn into an absolute blowout (think 1936, 1964, 1984). I cannot believe the Romney campaign is this desperate and short-sighted. I could see Obama winning upwards of 400 electoral votes now. The House could flip back and Democrats could pick up Senate seats. This is incredible. Thoughts?

This is totally my own theory, which means it's probably wrong.

I believe Ryan may well have been added to help bring in some of the voters to down ticket elections who otherwise weren't inclined to show up due to their distaste in Romney.

Granted, choosing him may well have cost them a presidency, but it's not as if it was looking good for them in that arena before. At least now they'll be able to get their base to the polls in somewhat reliable numbers.

Picking the veep always changes the headlines overnight, but is a one shot deal. announcing this early is a sign that the recent attacks on Romney have been very effective.

Romney will now get the traditional short term bump, but it would have been better to name the veep at the convention and ride the enthusiasm into November. He's out of wild cards to play now.

But since many of you are so confident, would it be too much to ask that we capture the House majority and add to the Senate? Yes, the presidency is the most important win. A congress that actually cooperates instead of trying to destroy the economy is pretty important itself though. There's no reason for not achieving that in an election year with a lopsided victory. I pray you're right, but I'm not taking anything for granted. Voter suppression, tremendous money disadvantage, and a natural inclination for caution keeps me from celebrating until the election is won, done, and over.

that is exactly where we should focus. I think we no longer need to worry about Obama, look to the House and Senate races.

Tremendous money disadvantage? Obama? Um, no.

Yeah, this isn't a race anymore.

We do need to be working on the coattails thing. Obama will win huge, so we need to tie as many democrats to his coattails as will fit.

Hi,

The Republicans will get a bump out of this in the Polls without a doubt. This does energize those Republicans that would stay at home & not vote, to get out & vote.

This does not mean we can sit back & laugh all the way to the polling station. We must get out & work hard to have Democrats elected this fall. Remember the average voter has problems seeing the truth as we do & the Republicans will no doubt put the muzzle on Ryan to make him look mainstream. Ryan is obviously bat guano crazy, but do not think that the average voter can understand this fact.

Get out & work hard to have our President re-elected & have more Democrats elected this fall !

I have always thought Obama will sweep, so I continue that thought.

If only Dems in Texas could somehow all vote, even Texas could turn blue(IMHO) now!
(which if that happened, would mean 400 plus electoral votes IMHO with a few other states).

I do not see one blue state turning red from this day forward, and I think Florida is way in the bag for Obama (so much so, that picking Ryan indicates to me, Romney knows he will not win Florida and is conceding it already.)

Picking Ryan is also showing that Romney has no control over his pick, and they forced the situation.(much like Kerry was forced to pick to his dismay, John Edwards and it was evident he never wanted to and knew from the moment it was not a good choice).

Obama/Biden roped the dopes again!
