Kavanaugh should say he doesn't want to get nominated to SCOTUS in such an unfair way. His nomination to this court is being sullied right from the beginning. This kangaroo court is no way to start this guy's tenure in this office. It really says something about SCOTUS as a branch of government.

(85,971 posts)...there are no more rules of comity there.
Grassley will rule like a dictator and push the hearing through without them, essentially staging a taxpayer-paid ad for republicans and Kavanaugh.

(25,219 posts)Kavanaugh. If this is how his nomination starts out - just think what will come of any of the decisions he would be involved in if nominated and confirmed.

(15,805 posts)That's juvenile school kid stuff. Sure, it might make for a few minutes of feel good TV video, but it's petty and accomplishes nothing. Better that they stand united and face down the opposition as much as they can to make the public aware of our objections and criticisms of Kavanaugh.

(25,219 posts)Can you imagine the coverage the MSM would give to this meeting if the Dems just got up and walked out. It would be 24/7 coverage and each Dem member of this committee would have a chance to talk directly to the American People and point out the unfairness in this process. It would make the Repugs and Grassley look really foolish. They couldn't defend this unfair process.
Right now very few Americans are watching this opening to this meeting. But if the Dems walked out - all Americans would be exposed to this absurdity.
I say bring it out into the open - the Dems should walk out.

(15,805 posts)Dems would only look like grandstanding fools for walking out and relinquishing their right to speak and question Kavanaugh. The MSM isn't going to give this hearing any attention, if there is a 30 second spot on the evening news that's all the public will learn. A walk out will only make the public think Dems are showboating and unwilling to do their job.
The average TV viewer doesn't care. They don't understand the issues, or what's at stake, and most people don't even know how our govt even works. All they will see is a made for silly TV sideshow where politicians aren't getting anything accomplished... as usual.

(34,131 posts)And showing how irregular this situation is. The Republicans are NOT following "regular order" and they are not doing right by the country in this travesty of a hearing.
Anyone who watches this will know how corrupt the Republicans are and how willing they are to distort the rules in order to get their way, bulldozing over the minority.
Just now Grassley sounded like a cranky old man yelling at the kids on his lawn.

(25,219 posts)if the Dems walk out the MSM would cover this ad nauseum and all Americans would get a chance to see how corrupt the Repugs are and how willing they are to distort the rules of order.
The talking heads on the cable news shows would inform the American People of this Kangaroo Court process.

(25,219 posts)It would shine a bright light on the 'culture of corruption' the Dems are already using against the Repugs for the Midterms.
This farce of a nomination process is just further fuel to the already long list of corrupt activities the Repugs have been involved in since Trump has become president.

(12,635 posts)I know that most of the GOP members will still vote the party line, but a "dignified walk out" by the Democrats only brings confirmation hearings to the full Senate earlier.
Kavanaugh doesn't care. He wants a SCOTUS seat to rule from far more than he cares about his dignity or reputation.
Positions of power attract the corruptible, and he's just the kind of corrupt stooge who probably couldn't be trusted with a business enough become a high enough executive to be an oligarch, and couldn't get elected because he's so obviously uncaring. He used his law degree for his "fame and fortune".
Delay, Delay, Delay is the only possible tactic. Ask the hard questions and expose the corruption. Maybe the Dems can make enough noise about his lies and arrogance that the Conservi-Dems and a few GOP Senators might just not confirm him in the full Senate.
He can't take this seat before the mid-terms. Because if the elections are not rigged enough that there will be a Blue Wave - especially if we take back the Senate, there can then be the argument that "The People have Spoken" and they don't want The Federalist Society to run the country that can sway a few more of those on the fence GOP types who might be concerned about 2020 and don't trust the Russians to fix it for them.
