There are subjects I am absolutely not interested in, and there are posters who post exclusively on those topics. I blocked them so I don't have to scroll down to find things I want to read. I have also blocked a couple of posters whose total lack of a sense of humor (and I give them four or five chances, and not just in reply to my posts) I find so grating that it spoils my time here. I don't block people I disagree with or whose positions I don't share. It's really a matter of topic and of style.

I have put people on full ignore and, when I do that, I have noticed gaps in the threads if the people I've put on full ignore respond to a given thread.

I go back and check those I've blocked and find they've been tombstoned as we used to say- no longer have posting privileges. I did block someone recently who is probably OK, but was overloading a group I am a subscriber. I don't know if he was trying to build up a post count or what. DU2 had a better block feature. You could block their OPs but their responses would still show- I used that mostly.

There’s two right now. One is a boring self promoter and the other is Eeyore. I unblock them periodically. I do use the trash thread feature—very helpful.

Usually on low-posting number people that pop up from time to time, disrupting rational conversations with blatant trolling and shit-stirring. The most annoying, to me, are the Sea Lions who completely take over threads.

back when things were pretty poisonous during primary season. A few months ago, I decided to look at where all those fine folk were at now, was happy to see that of the 15, all but one were either still FFR'ed or had not posted since 2016.

I used to looked forward to logging on and reading the posts, now I dread it and only check them out occasionally, I'm not saying I'm completely Innocent, but this place is humorless!

It's like the rise and fall of the Roman Empire, everything hits it's peak and then it's all down hill.

America is experiencing the same thing, trumpism.

And it's not something I do lightly: Before I click, I'm convinced these people have nothing to offer -- no insight, no new perspective, nothing to change either my attitude or thought. I perceive I have an open mind, but that's no reason to let others use it as a sewer.

I also utilize ignore to remove trolls and other unsavory folks from my experience. Oh, I recognize they may be gone by morning, but how much more pleasant the evening is without them. I've never blocked anyone who intelligently debated me, but I'll not suffer fools gladly or madly.

Most of all, I use ignore to avoid simple stupidity: drunken fools, whacked-out conspiracy nuts ("BushCo caused the tsunami" ), one-note wonders who post the same drivel over and over. . . Other people may choose what they perceive as the "high road" of tolerance and community, but I've no time for blithering foolishness and no interest in useless poppycock. Some will disagree but I figure they must have a surplus of life.

There are some posters whose every other utterance is imbecilic, and those who delight in being boorish with no regard for raising the level of conversation or thought. These too I choose to ignore.

If it makes people feel better about the DU "family" or some other such fantasy, you can occasionally clear your entire Ignore list. I do. Often, I find many of those I've shut off were soon after tombstoned, so I don't feel I missed anything.

I review it every 6 months or so, about half the names on a rather short list have been banned within that time frame.

Helps my blood pressure stay down.
