I guess the emails Corey Booker wanted to use Wednesday were cleared early this morning at the last minute. That means Grassley and Cornyn were playing games today when Booker was read the rules. Booker should have been given his time back to question Kavanaugh like he wanted to yesterday, or at least told he could do so today. Instead, Grassely and Cornyn kept quiet, and now the right is claiming that Booker was grandstanding and being a martyr. Is there something I'm getting wrong about this? It's hard to keep up with all of this, but I don't trust these Republicans at all. They don't want Kavanaugh to be questioned about certain things, but they also don't want it known they are keeping information from the public. All this last minute stuff is BS!

(52,196 posts)they cleared it after booker released it and grassley backdated the decision.
that makes *way* more sense than republicans actually voluntarily approving releasing embarrassing documents but keeping it secret and going through this whole charade with booker before revealing that it was all approved anyway.

(10,009 posts)The GOP does not want Kavanaugh to defend his written paper trail record in public. It isn't that the GOP do not agree with Kavanaugh. In private they agree with Kavanaugh's anti-woman, anti-science, anti-afirmative action, anti pre-existing conditions, anti-worker, anti-abortion biases.
The GOP does not want to have to answer in public if they agree with specific Kavanaugh writings. They expect Kavanaugh to do their dirty work from the bench while they do not suffer much consequence and continue to rake in money from their donors.
