Andrew Gillum, Democratic candidate for governor, told an Orlando crowd today President Donald Trump fearfully avoids him on social media.
The president is real savvy on his Twitter feed. He tends to talk about me in Montana and other places, Gillum said. But hes unfortunately a little cowardly. He wont @ me, yall.
Indeed, the only time Trump to date mentioned Gillum via Twitter came when he congratulated Republican gubernatorial nominee Ron DeSantis for winning Floridas GOP primary. Then, Trump called Gillum a Socialist Mayor who let crime flourish in Tallahassee. But he failed to use Gillums Twitter handle, @andrewgillum, which would have sent a notification to the Democratic candidate.
Regardless, Gillum did see the tweet, and he (or campaign team members managing his Twitter account) offered a response 13 minutes after Trumps original post that did employ the presidents favored handle.
The subject came up today at a Gillums official campaign kickoff, which drew about 1,200 people the Orlando Downtown Recreation Center to hear he and running mate Chris King, as well as U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, rally supporters around the Democratic tickets message of restoring dignity to Floridas working class.

(46,056 posts)He is young, rich, and an enthusiastic liberal. I think his youth, like Gillum's, will appeal to young voters. Plus he's got lots of business experience so that's a plus. He's Orlando-based, and as always, the I4 corridor is key in FL politics.
I was hoping he'd pick Gwen Graham but I'm feeling like this is a good choice. Plus, they've got great spouses and seriously cute kids!

(14,565 posts)But I wanted to mention that Bill Nelson is now much more visible locally here in Miami. His spots were running on the college football games today, likewise on the Thursday night NFL game, and I saw them yesterday on the cable political shows.
Governor race has been quiet so far in terms of spots for either side
