Democrats Call For Brett Kavanaugh Confirmation Vote To Be Postponed Over Perjury Charges

Democrats Call For Brett Kavanaugh Confirmation Vote To Be Postponed Over Perjury Charges

House Judiciary Committee Democrats are calling for Trump Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation vote to be postponed while charges that the nominee perjured himself are investigated.

The House Judiciary Committee Democrats tweeted:

The House Judiciary Democrats linked to a New York Times editorial that discussed some of Kavanaugh’s perjury:

In that 2004 hearing and again in 2006, when he was being considered for a seat on the federal appeals court in Washington, D.C., Mr. Kavanaugh told Congress, under oath, that he knew nothing about the extensive theft of secret strategy documents from Democratic senators’ computers by Republican staffers. As it turns out, he did in fact receive those documents or summaries of them. But he now claims that he had no reason to believe that they had been stolen, even though one email he got had the subject line “spying” and began, “I have a friend who is a mole for us on the left.”

….

Then there are the persistent doubts about his truthfulness in telling senators in 2006 that he had no knowledge of Mr. Bush’s warrantless wiretapping program or his detainee treatment policy — claims that have been called into question by yet more emails, which showed he knew about both of those things years before they became public.

Brett Kavanaugh Has Been Lying Under Oath For Decades

Kavanaugh should be ashamed of how he got to the doorstep of becoming a Supreme Court justice, but he is the one wrote the modern playbook for unpopular Republican Supreme Court nominees. Kavanaugh has said nothing, and without Democrats on the committee asking the tough questions and releasing documents, the American people would know nothing about Trump’s nominee.

There are two pieces of good news. The Kavanaugh nomination could still be stopped, and if Kavanaugh is confirmed, it is possible to impeach a Supreme Court justice.

The Democrats are right. It is time to pull the emergency brake and stop this Kavanaugh farce. If Republicans do confirm Kavanaugh, it will their last act as a majority in the House and possibly the Senate as well, as voters will make them pay in November.

If you want Democrats to stand up, you have to stand with them.
You have to have their backs and their flanks against GOP and tv.
Let 'em know they're right.

I called and will continue to do so. I also thanked the Dems who stood up to fight. We ALL must fight, no EXCUSES! Here is contact info. Call the Dem and GOP senators who are "iffy" too. Get an address from Zillow (google "Zillow homes for sale" for each individual senator's state for an address and zip) and it WORKS! Use your cell phone area since that can be from anywhere so it doesn't matter. This is in case they ask but they seldom do. I have done it hundreds of times (not exaggerating). It literally takes 3 min to Google it and two min to call. JUST DO IT!

If the Democrats take the House and Senate, could they pursue perjury charges & impeach Kavanaugh? Would it require a majority of votes in the House and then 2/3 of the Senate to convict, like with the President?

The Impeachment is the easy part, it's the Senate that's the problem, even if the Dems regain control of the Senate, it still requires 67 Senators voting to convict and remove, and they're not going to get that many votes.

24. depends on time
Sun Sep 9, 2018, 07:09 PM
Sep 2018

It depends on how long the investigations by the House take. The Senate might well be overwhelmingly D by the time those finish.

There were 79 hearings on "Obamacare" and 32 hearings on Benghazi. The Repugs spent 25 years going after Hillary Clinton. The Benghazi investigation took 28 months.

Given the seriousness of the question of fitness of a Supreme Court Justice, who is appointed for life, it might take a bit longer to investigate fully than a one-time attack on an embassy.
