Under a new plan if you have a large protest organizers will have to pay for all th cops, barricades, special arrangements et al before the protest is approved. Under the Trump lan the US government would be able to assess organizers thousands of dollars if they use public property administered by the federal government. This policy would see a precedent for government entities all across the United States if you plan to protest on public property.
So free speech will have a few if you disagree with Republicans mostly. We are in a new era or suppression.

(4,308 posts)US Constitution, First Amendment:
"Congress shall make no law...abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." I realize that Trump leads the Executive Branch, not the Congress. But doesn't the Bill of Rights generally have a strong influence over our entire US government?

(4,308 posts)Wouldn't this Protest Tax (really, that is what it is, fully as much as the Poll Tax was a tax on voting) also be UnConstitutional?

(10,274 posts)IF the government doesn't want to pay cops overtime (and 'supplies' that become necessary when people decide to protest dumb shit that the government does), then MAYBE it would be in the governments best interest NOT to do the Dumb Shit that people are gonna protest.
I KNOW that's askin A LOT, but maybe try it for say ten years, and let's see where that gets us.
Just throwin that out there.
