Rep. Clay Higgins Wants to Drug Test Congress
Lawmakers would be referred to Ethics Committee if they tested positive for drugs

Rep. Clay Higgins, R-La., a former sheriffs department captain in Louisiana, has proposed legislation to drug test members of Congress. (Tom Williams/CQ Roll Call)
Rep. Clay Higgins has an idea for how to get Congress to clean up its act: random drug screenings.
I have observed some behavior that would cause one to wonder, the Louisiana Republican told the USA Today Network in an interview, apparently joking.
But his proposal to test senators and House members for drug use once per term is no joke. On Thursday, the freshman lawmaker introduced a concurrent resolution to do just that.
Its about keeping lawmakers accountable to their constituents and staying clean like the millions of Americans who take drug tests every year.
Congress shouldnt get to live by a different set of rules, he said. This effort is about maintaining accountability and ensuring sober service to ... the people, he said.

What about all the alcoholics ???
If you are going to do it, do it right.
Random drug test monthly.
Breathalyzer daily, when in session.
This is rich coming from a republican: "I have observed some behavior that would cause one to wonder".
What about the president ???
Will they be included ???

(7,399 posts)Let's take a guess. Which party is generally more lenient toward marijuana? So.....which party would seemingly be more likely to use it? I'm just guessing, but sounds like it would be more Democrats. Political stunt by a freshman Rep.
I wonder who decides what "random" means.

(38,958 posts)most every workplace has a drug testing policy. Sometimes it is an aggressive one and others more passive, but for those who make the laws of this land I believe that some sort of testing is in order.
