They likely also viewed this as an action which could energize Republican voters shortly before these critical midterms.
Its clearly not working out the way they planned.

He has to have nerves of steel, but the day Dr. Ford's story came out his upset babbling on and on and on about how we denied him a chance to swiftboat her before the hearing suggested real anxiety. That day, the man who considers talking to the electorate a waste of of his time couldn't stop bleating.

(58,785 posts)Dr. Ford's response this afternoon to the judiciary committee is that she cannot testify on Monday but would be able to next week depending. "She wishes to testify, provided that we can agree on terms that are fair and which ensure her safety."
Another move for the delay in confirmation the Republicans are trying to avoid at all costs.
