A DU Post from last week about interview fashion.
https://www.democraticunderground.com/10181121602
Yes I wore the pin point collar.
Third interview since I was laid off in August. First with this organization. I actually found free parking downtown so I should have known things were going my way. Public sector. It was an "informal" interview due to my preferred hiring status (hard to explain). Meeting with the direct supervisor (usually it's a 4 person panel) ...a manager sat in for a while...a took a break (supervisor smokes)...in comes the boss...we meet and she says "We're going to make this happen" .....Me: "Really?". First interview hirings AT THE INTERVIEW are unheard of.
Yep start in a few weeks. Just as my severance runs out.
I'm still waiting to hear about two other slightly higher paying positions I interviewed for last week.
The Cleveland Browns won last night after 635 days.
Oh yeah I also found out my unemployment claim was processed so I get to go back two weeks and double dip (while on severance). Hey look, they approved it.
IN-law is home from the hospital after a bit of a heart scare. Everything checked out.
Then my wife texts me - the tax return check we somehow lost? The replacement check came in the mail today. TODAY!!!
What a day!!
If you're wondering, I know it's a tax on the stupid but HELL YEAH I went and bought some lottery tickets.
Shit. Why not?
Lastly, little ones has straight A+'s so far AND she's a really really good kid.

(14,565 posts)That overwhelmed everything else in the thread, if we're talking about Richmond.
Never happens when I'm there. Two years ago I was scrambling for quarters across from the Capital building and then had to leave the tour before conclusion to scramble back to the car. Literally sprinted. I had seen the meter readers out there when I drove up.
Congratulations on both accounts

(196,495 posts)At my interviews last week I pulled into a place on 8th street right near Capital Square that is used to park at for $5-8 (worked down the street and we knew the guy) and was told "$8 an hour. Anything over 2 hours is $30".
I asked about parking once they'd said I had the job. Across the street - $24 per pay period PRE TAX. Plus it's on the Park n Ride line. Parking is cheaper than the bus.

(14,565 posts)This is a popular thread so I'll tout Burger King but also mention a great ongoing deal.
They have an app coupon for a $1 Whopper. But I read you don't necessarily need a smart phone or the app. The code is 9270.
I went to Burger King tonight and it worked. I asked the lady to punch in a Whopper and then use that code number. She was shocked when it rang up $1 plus 7 cents tax.
I thanked her. Before I left she told me since I got a $1 Whopper I should leave a positive mention of her in a review. No problem.

(1,359 posts)I was severed from my job (of 21 years) in August, too. A stable company, in a decent little mid-west town, and one that was proud to tout that they had NEVER had layoffs in their 100 year history.
Well, they can't say that anymore. 1000 of us, gone.
And I've still got not one prospect. In fact, I'm still twisting in the wind, not even knowing what to do next. I'm completely lost.
But, congrats! Sounds like you had an awesome day!

But good on your new adventure. (But stay away from the lottery...it's just voluntary taxation, lol.)

We actually discussed me getting some temp work (wouldn't affect the severance) but she said No.
I asked why and she said "Oh I've got a HoneyDo list for you!"
I used that story in an interview and got a good laugh.
