(954 posts)I'm not sure. Ted is a like a bulldog on the stage, and it seems that Beto is timid.
Also, Ted is dropping the trigger words, "Hillary," "Obama," and "socialism."
Beto is stating facts and is eloquent, but Ted's street fight nature may be more appealing to Texans.

(56,582 posts)He's counterpunching (that's what Cruz does) but he's not setting the terms of the debate. The marijuana part was fucking brutal for him.
UncleTomsEvilBrother
(954 posts)...I'm hoping you're right. I want Beto to win...badly.
Recursion
(56,582 posts)I'm actually approaching the limit. But I fucking love this guy. Like, I don't just want to beat Ted Cruz, I independent of that want Beto in the Senate and maybe more later.

(13,913 posts)But its nothing new cruz & GOP habent done before -its the same politics of fear they do every election, & its what feeds their simple minded conspiracy-believing base. You cant possibly watch that & think beto is timid. He delivers thoughtful and well reasoned answers.

(954 posts)...that Texas can't see the fake, smarmy, insincere crap that comes out of Cruz's smirky lips. Beto did very well - especially at the end of the debate.

(39,900 posts)Smarmy "Lyin' Ted" resorted to his tired old platitudes and gained no traction. Sad!

(4,341 posts)Most of the attacks Cruz made to Beto are written about in the article, but no response from Beto which makes it look like he didn't have an answer to the accusations.

(7,637 posts)Cruz kept throwing out Hillary, and Bernie, and socialism into every answer regardless of the question. The last question was for each to say something positive about the other. Beto spoke of Cruz's devotion to his family; Cruz said some of the same kind of things, PLUS Bernie, Hillary, far left liberal, socialism, etc... Just nauseating to listen to Cruz. Beto did fairly well, said some well thought out, positive things about his general philosophy of what government is for.
It's very tight now, but Beto is gradually gaining ground. It's going to be a nail biter, I think.

(14,565 posts)We better get used to hearing that countless times in every debate, regardless of nominee.
Rick Scott has been labeling Bill Nelson a socialist, if anyone can believe that.

(13,480 posts)Beto is more likeable. Of course, then I would like an armadillo better than Ted Cruz and I despise armadillos! Cruz has done nothing for Texas during his six years in the Senate. His sole purpose for being a senator is to run for president, which he will be doing again if Trump goes down.
H2O Man
(79,053 posts)I really enjoyed watching this debate. Going in, I thought that because Cruz is supposed to be a serious debater, that Beto only needed to stay close. He didn't have to "win," in other words.
But as it unfolded, I thought Beto went from keeping it even, to pulling ahead.

(1,861 posts)In the finale when they were to say something nice about each other. Beto went first and talked about the good family man that Cruz is. Cruz replied in kind and then added a couple of smarmy things. Beto slipped in three more words. "True to form." I am proud to be able to vote for him. I have my yard signs.
