It doesn't actually accept anything that they insisted on and says they want to return to negotiating.

This reads more to me as though they are making clear that she wants to tell her story, but they aren't accepting the "proposal" and want the failure of the hearings to fall squarely on Republicans shoulders. Republicans are now forced to give up something in another counter-offer or look like they're making a "take it or leave it" demand.

I don't read this as her accepting their negotiating position at all (beyond whatever had already been agreed to).

She "agrees to testify next week" doesn't mean that she accepts Wednesday. The only other thing she says is that many of their demands are unreasonable and they would like to meet later today to continue negotiations.

Kavanaugh is a political operative and they all know it but they can't drop him now. They are determined to push him though and probably will.

If they fail it could really effect THEIR turn out but this whole thing, especially how they've treated Ford, could be the last best GOTV element the Dems need. Look at the sudden involvement and election of women after Clarence Thomas was shoved through.

The GOP might be better off throwing Kavanaugh under the bus, claim it was the smearing of a good man, wave the "bloody shirt", and rally their troops for the midterms.

If Dr. Ford is credible which I strongly believe she is and the Republicans ram her through it will inure to our benefit in the midterms.

She's already brought forward her allegations, and her name has been revealed. Her privacy and her security are already dismantled. It's easier at this point to go forward, because she can't turn back and return to her former anonymous status.

She needs to go ahead with head held high and voice firm, and knock 'em dead with her testimony.
