Could Prez Obama be elected speaker?
I know. Its a what if question but could this happen? And would it do any good having him in that position?

(7,964 posts)Don't think Obama would do it but as an even more delicious alternative, how about Hillary?

In practice, I imagine that if the Speaker was ineligible or refused the Presidency succession would move on to the President pro tem of the Senate.

Besides, the tradition is that a sitting representative gets that job. The House loves its traditions, so it's very, very unlikely it would change them to select someone who was not part of that body.
Essentially, what you suggest simply will not happen. Not even the slimmest possible chance of that.
How about, instead, spending your time doing GOTV work in your own district?

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
