I have a question about why dt nominated Brett Kavanaugh

in the first place. Apparently, McConnell told dt to nominate ANYONE else. But he went with Kavanaugh anyway. Is it mainly because he is the person that has it on record that a President can't (or doesn't necessarily have to be) prosecuted?

Which is why some other groups of folks seem to be so willing to support Kavanaugh.

There seems to be a lot of folks on shaky ground.

Down about halfway in this tweet thread.

I don't fully understand it yet but it seems to raise the possibility that you can't be prosecuted at the state level for crimes that have been brought to federal court. This is what keeps Trump out of state courts.

That said, cases can be referred back to the STATE level if the FEDERAL court wants clarification or decides not to rule because they don't think the case has reached standing at the FEDERAL level . . . yet.

(Please correct me if I'm wrong, counselors.)

But adding Bromwich into the mix . . . changes everything ! I would imagine that there are some republicans who will not be reaching for their nightly ExLax dosage tonight.

Michael Slager killed Walter Scott in cold blood, got a mistrial, feds busted him. Probably gets to get a retrial and another hung jury.

It's all just a big game to him. His life is based on conning and lying and cheating and stealing and exerting power over people.

He wants to see what he can get away with so he knows how much power he has and so he can use that power and extend that power.

I don't think he understands or cares about the Supreme Court other than that people seem to think it's important or something.

There are plenty of conservative federal judges (who probably don't have such creepy skeletons in their closets) who would want to overturn Roe v. Wade and make other retrograde decisions the GOP would be happy with. But Trump specifically wanted Kavanaugh because no other judge has said he doesn't think presidents can be investigated or subpoenaed, let alone indicted. McConnell must have known Kavanaugh had some bad secrets, which would go a long way toward explaining why he was in such a hurry to rush through the confirmation process.

let alone indicted or prosecuted

I've heard that even McConnell didn't want this nominee ("literally anyone else&quot but obviously Rump did, and for obvious reasons.

But he got some attention for himself last year by dissenting in the case where the Trump admin tried to prevent a pregnant minor immigrant detainee from getting an abortion. The court decided she had to have access to the requisite medical care, but he clearly stated he was cool with forced gestation, and that boosted his profile.

All the other things people mentioned above are also valid, as far as I know, but I just wanted to add this one.
