Why should Americans be the only ones allowed to choose the President?

We may not get to have a vote, and in the real world of course the choice of President needs to be the choice of the American people, however next election season I do not think it wrong to wish the rest of us get a say too! Follow my reasoning...

Democracy is a pesky business on occasion, and just sometimes when, as a world, we arrived in 2016, at such a huge crossroads of disorder, the idea that the fate of the planet rested in the ballot box of only one country, I am sure you can agree, was more than a tad concerning to the rest of us. Call us naive but others might have liked something of a say over the choice of the most powerful leader in the free (not so much at the moment) world especially when the choice America made continues to be a direct threat to international security issues. We as a world have had to live through the crazy for what seems like decades, because (some of) the people of America picked an unstable arsehole to govern them (and us to a degree).

I am sure that you have all heard the phrase ‘When America sneezes the world catches cold’? It is true. One must just look at the financial collapse last decade to see how America’s policies can have a huge effect abroad. When America voted for the Wanker in Chief it was no longer ‘When America sneezes the world catches cold’ it is ‘When America sneezes the world catches a WORLD WAR’. For many nativists, isolationists, xenophobes and the general far right whackery who have got theirs so do not give a shit if you have yours, they could not have cared less what impact their choice of President had on the rest of us. Maybe this is a rather splendid reason why it should not just be Americans who determine the outcome of future elections? Making the determination to not give a shit about the impact of such a serious voting decisions in a 21st Century global economy and community is not merely faux exceptionalism in the extreme, it is also incredibly dangerous for the rest of us.

At the very least can any future world leader have to pass an internationally sanctioned sanity test? That would make me feel much more comfortable about the future of human kind.

I will repeat that in the real world of course the choice of President needs to be the choice of the American people, but......

the president as it is empty land and herds of sheep. Flyover country has electoral power far beyond its actual significance, which is almost nil from a cultural or economic standpoint.
