Marcy Wheeler analyzes the language Kavanaugh used in Fox interview

and notes how he reframed the charge from sexual assault to sexual intercourse.
It’s a very interesting catch by her. All that blather from him about being a virgin and not having intercourse was part of his attempt to reframe the accusation and couch his denial in terms that were different from the accusations.

https://www.emptywheel.net/2018/09/25/brett-kavanaugh-it-depends-on-what-the-meaning-of-the-phrase-sexual-assault-is/

KAVANAUGH: We’re talking about an allegation of sexual assault. I’ve never sexually assaulted anyone. I did not have sexual intercourse or anything close to sexual intercourse in high school or for many years there after. And the girls from the schools I went to and I were friends —
~~~
That is, the man who helped impeach Bill Clinton for a blowjob says he couldn’t have sexually assaulted any of the now-four women who allege he did because he remained a virgin through that entire period.
And having defined vaginal intercourse to be necessary in any sexual assault, Kavanaugh kept repeating the term, sexual assault sexual assault sexual assault sexual assault sexual assault sexual assault sexual assault sexual assault, eight times in the interview.
Dr. Ford accused him of attempted rape.
He’s trying to frame it as he didn’t have intercourse as if that is the core of the accusation when it is not.
It’s quite similar to some of the defenses Republicans have been floating for him. I doubt that’s coincidental, just like their earlier attempt to blame it on mistaken identity. Looks like this is their new tactic.
Senators Harris and Hirono will no doubt shred right through this.
But I don't believe that he views women and sexuality with maturity. That's why he expects his audience to accept his conflation. He expects the sheep to view his "slight of word" because he believes the way he framed it and that they do, too.
You and I weren't his audience last night on Fox. He's trying to keep Trump's base in his corner because even some of them must be slipping away right now. That's why he kept repeating his talking points. It was almost like repeating a times table with elementary school kids until they memorized it.
Add a huge dollop of hubris. He’s used to getting his way and convincing people he’s right and likely thinks he’s much cleverer than he actually is.
Then he can really push his hubris around. We're going to have to work very hard to protect women from the loss of 20th century rights.
would take effect the minute the change was done. So, there was not a minute we weren’t covered by Net Neutrality. Will have to advocate that the same be done for any and all civil rights and labor laws that are threatened.
Guess that wouldn't meet his definition of sexual assault.
Although, if his friends also adopted the vaginal requirement it would have made the notion of a Devil's Triangle quite painful.
Why has no one brought up the fact these boys were not just bragging about their sexual exploits but they were bragging about MMF threesomes?????
A brawl erupted as Raj refused to let her speak and charged ahead with the talking points. She finally got him quiet enough to point out his slurring of assault and intercourse, but he still wouldn't answer . She finally had to give up and go on.
