One of the House leaders, Henry Hyde, was revealed to have had an extramarital affair of his own. He called it a youthful indiscretion because he was, at the time, a mere 41 years old. (2/7)

Fortunately for the GOP, they settled on another replacement, who served for eight years. That man, Dennis Hastert, later served time in a federal prison for molesting young boys when he was a wrestling coach. (5/7)

But at least one of Starrs young staff attorneys made good. Brett Kavanaugh is likely to become the next justice of the U.S. Supreme Court--unless, that is, someone discovers that he committed sexual assault or witnessed gang rapes while in high school (7/7)

(315 posts)You do realize that your comment is a total non-sequitur, right?
And since most teachers (grossly underpaid, btw) are women, seems a bit sexist.
I recommend that you rethink why you felt the need to ridicule educators.

(43,123 posts)You missed the obvious point. That nucleus is teaching hypocrisy. It's their DNA.
KSNY
(315 posts)Then you say: "They are teaching hypocrisy." The hackneyed saying you used is one that shames an honorable profession.
Time to stop using that particular phrase. It is insulting.

(4,929 posts)I remember this scene from West Wing and was yelling in agreement when I watched the show:
Sam Seaborn:" Mallory, education is the silver bullet. Education is everything. We don't need little changes, we need gigantic, monumental changes. Schools should be palaces. The competition for the best teachers should be fierce. They should be making six-figure salaries. Schools should be incredibly expensive for government and absolutely free of charge to its citizens, just like national defense. That's my position. I just haven't figured out how to do it yet. "
I've always said that it is in the best interest of the United States of America to have a well educated population. I too wish we could figure out how to this!

(315 posts)my negative reaction was to the dismissive/insulting meaning of the phrase "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach."
It is a perfect summary of American anti-intellectualism. Since many teachers are women, there are also sexist undertones to the phrase.
Republicans want a poorly educated population. Our dismissive attitude towards teachers plays into their agenda.

(43,123 posts)were you sent by GOP Russians to sew doubt in our minds? I only ask because THAT's what it sounds like.
And if you did get the point the first time around, why did you say "Not obvious from the comment under your title" in your comment 2 lines above?
Making consistent sense goes a long way to being taken seriously. Posting 2 sides of an issue is to cause discord.
KSNY
(315 posts)I took offense to your use of a particular phrase. I asked why you used that teacher-shaming cliche.
Please don't be so sensitive and attack me.
Goodbye sir or madam. May you avoid shaming teachers in the future

(2,594 posts)this past weekend. What a fucking hypocritical asshole idiot. The sheer, unspeakable obscenity of that - promising those convened that he would deliver them the effective control of the Supreme Court with his cram-down installation of serial abuser and rapist Kavanaugh - is enough to provoke the desire to dismember the fucking bastard(s) with a chain saw.

(81,193 posts)From "that is, someone discovers that he committed sexual assault or witnessed gang rapes while in high school (7/7)" to
"that is, someone discovers that he committed sexual assault or witnessed, OR PARTICIPATED IN, gang rapes while in high school."
After all, we have no proof that he DIDN'T participate in those gang or "train" rapes. Especially since we also have eye-witness accounts that mention SEEING HIM AND HIS MISCREANT PAL, Mark Judge, IN LINE with other boys, waiting outside a closed-door room to take their "turns" with the young, drugged, forcibly incapacitated female inside.
How do we NOT know that they both DID NOT also go into that room to have their way with the female victim inside? After all, they were seen in the line of boys waiting to get in there and do that. Don't we have a sworn affidavit from another potential victim, saying she saw that with her own eyes?
They've denied it.
OF COURSE they've denied it!
But hey, Vladimir Putin's ALSO denied HIS OWN assaults - even, figurative rapes - of our sacred right to vote in the sanctity of fair and free and unfettered and uncompromised elections in this country!
