More Minnesotans are voting early

ST. PAUL -- Statewide, 106,061 people have requested absentee-voting ballots just six days into the early voting period, according to Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon. Of those ballots, 11,353 have already been accepted.

The high numbers build off the record-setting voter turnout in the August primary — the highest since 1994. Simon said this is an indication that Minnesota is “on track to maintain our number one in the country status for voter participation.”

These numbers are also an increase from the last mid-term election in 2014, Simon said. That election was the first time Minnesotans had the option to participate in no-excuses absentee voting.

At the same time in 2014, there were 37,710 ballots requested and 3,818 accepted.
