Only a couple of months ago, after almost 30 years of marriage, I finally persuaded my wife to watch the movie with me (and I hadn't seen it in that long, either), since it's kind of a cultural touchstone.

She wasn't impressed overall, and you know, frankly it didn't hold up very well to me, either. She did also like that "Senator and Mrs. John Blutarsky" final line, though.

Of course, the hilarious unlikeliness of that line came many, many years before the occupant of the White House made so many formerly-outrageous jokes like that forever less funny...

She’s passed out in the middle of a clear intention to have sex, but she’s passed out. His inner devil and angel argue over it but it’s clear he just isn’t that guy.

None of the regular guys, whatever weirdoes they are, are THAT guy.

in a line from the book but cut from the movie... they explain his frat name

"The guy with the spotted dick!"

oh, and the checkout girl that was his date (daughter of the local car dealer), was only 13 (I think).

wife and daughter got wasted at the party.

Pinto didn't know the girl was 13. (how many 13 year-olds work as cashiers?)

I think the summary at the end was the second funniest thing in the movie, the funniest was the chaos that was created at the parade.
