Keep in mind Mitch McConnell controls his GOP senators like puppets on a string.
He has control as he is the one deciding who sits on what committees and these positions influence the voters in each Senator's States.
Note that it takes a retirement or brain cancer before any of the these Senators are willing to even start to vote their conscience.

1. McConnell's looking a tad sickly these days...
Squatting on a humongous heap of KGOP republican lies and evil deeds tends to take its toll over time.

3. I've read the summit of his ambitions for 30 years was
this position, he never wanted more. He's extremely talented, but I doubt he has the slightest idea that the reason he was able to achieve his ambition and is presiding over the collapse of his party leadership is that he shares all its faults and epitomizes their intense dysfunction. Also that watching others for 30 years never prepared him for what the situation would have become by the time he arrived at it.
He's conservative but has never shown any significant ideological commitment. His legacy will be strikingly devoid of the kind of achievements most legislators want to live on beyond them. His one great goal has only been the achievement and exercise of national power for itself, never to achieve any great goals for the nation; not even achieving his great position changed that. Serving the wealthy has always been his path to increasingly greater power, therefore their interests are his, everything else be damned. I wonder if McConnell occasionally thinks of Louis XV's "Apres moi le deluge" or does he completely lack Louis's insight and honesty? |
