2. Grandparent is a bit of a nudge, not like a primary legacy, but helpful

I think Brett would have been admitted anyway. He was no George W Bush who didn’t have a prayer without the legacy. Yale gives the most weight, by a lot, to top grades at schools they know from experience are rigorous, whose prior graduates with top grades have excelled at Yale. It is a much better predictor than SAT scores, statistically proven better. Georgetown prep is one of those schools. And I think Brett was valedictorian. But he did get a bit of a nudge from grandpa, he lied about that.

3. Yale College is different from Yale Law School.

While the grandfather legacy may have helped him get into Yale College, it wouldn’t have meant anything for Yale Law School.
