It sounds like he's admitting to getting belligerent because he lost a game of dice, and he's admitting that he doesn't remember much, so he's apologizing for behavior that others told him he committed. Sounds like black-out drinking.

This is corroborated by people who knew him in college.

Worst of all, he did this with fellow employees in a work setting. He appears to be admitting to getting abusively black-out drunk with co-workers, at least some of whom appear to report to him (based on the reminder about confidentiality at the end of his note.)

Is he still drinking? Will he be sending such emails to his colleagues on the Supreme Court?

So there would be no reason for him to remind guys to keep their activities quiet from wives, unless there were women such as paid escorts providing entertainment and services that would be problematic if their wives found out.

Doesn't much matter. The keeping secrets from spouses thing is disturbing regardless.

At a minimum, it indicates a potential for blackmail.

Always a sign of moral rectitude.

There right there is a quality everyone wants in a judge, someone who lies to his wife.

He apologizes for "growing agressive" after losing a game of dice (more gambling?). Was there drinking involved?

Why does he say "don't recall"? Too drunk to remember?

for the good old boys for whoring around. They pretend they were participating in an activity that the spouses wouldn't be interested in anyway, and it promotes the "just boys having fun with the boys" atmosphere.

I was a chapter president in a very prominent chapter of a community service organization in California in the early 80s. Their members were mostly college graduates from upper middle class families. My chapter didn't sponsor these kind of events and we had female members. A neighboring all-male Chapter annually hosted an event called "Sports Night" which was billed as the guys getting together and watching videos of past boxing matches and other sporting events. This was when VCRs were very expensive and few people owned one, so it was a big deal.

I was invited because I was a pretty prominent member being a Chapter President. I didn't go but I knew people who did. The next morning's newspaper had a story that the party had been busted by the police. They had underage girls acting as cocktail waitresses and the grand door prize was a night with a prostitute. The matter disappeared from the press immediately when all charges were dropped and it was realized that several members of the club were local law enforcement officers. Some of them were present.

I wasn't raised in the prep school society, so I was pretty naïve to all this stuff. I was around 28 years old and I never went to college. But this was my brush with the fact that these kind of things go on. It makes the events of the recent weeks seem all that more believable.

I remember that after I first graduated from college, I worked for a tech company and went to a trade show in nyc. I was actually shocked there were vendors there handing out keys to hotel rooms where hookers were waiting. I didn't partake (no really, I was way too scared to even think about it - young and foolish - and besides, I didn't have the juice to warrant that kind of gift), but I saw man after man take and return keys.

Sex parties at work weren't unheard of. People spoke openly about swinger parties they went to. There was a company wide newsgroup dedicated to sex where people (more women than men from what I recall) posted using their real names. It was finally shut down by hr, but it took quite a while.

In short, it wasn't a very well hidden secret. There were a lot of woman who participated; it wasn't all men and hookers. I'm sure there are a lot of people who are upset things have changed.

But back then I was blue collar guy travelling in professional circles. This was all new to me, even at age 28. I wasn't seeing the corporate world, this was a community service club situation, but most of these people were professionals and I wouldn't doubt some of them went on to hold political office. Indeed I know one who has held statewide political office in California. He wasn't at the party, though and is a decent good guy.

Or at the very least not the whole game. Who plays dice unless something else is involved?

These aren't a bunch of guys in an alley. These were Washington power players on a private yacht. Something else was going on.

Just sayin.....

You don't exactly have to worry about the Police barging in the door. And dice is a very portable game that can be played anywhere.

35 years ago, although things are getting worse.

Kavanaughs rage, crying and rants make me think he has much deeper problems now. To me that disqualifies him as a Judge.

And,of course it is clear he lied to Congress. If some in his Court room had acted as he did, especially his rudeness to Klobucher, his refusal to answer questions, he would have held them in contempt, sentanced them to jail.

He was applying for a position..He should not be hired.

Him admitting agression that he must have been told about but didn't remember is pretty damning.
