Trump may have sealed Kavanaughs fate at his rally last night.

Trump mocked and called Ford a liar. He then tried to say young men are now the victims. Once again Trump shows just how stupid and ignorant he really is. That was the dumbest thing you could do at this moment.

Flake saw that rally and I think he was disgusted by it. I may be wrong, but I think Flake is going to vote no along with Collins and the women from Alaska. I think all three of them have been turned off with the process that is taking place.

Their story:

"I happily voted for Gorsuch because, independent of politics, he's a fine judge. I couldn't vote for Kav because - in my heart of hearts, independent of politics, his demeanor and the words from his own mouth during the hearings lead me to conclude we should look for another nominee who I can support".

That simple - they don't have to believe her or believe him. Assume for a moment (in some f'ing alternative universe) that he did NOTHING of what is alleged by Ford, Ramirez, and Swetnick. His behavior and questionable truthfulness about everything else isn't SCOTUS-worthy.

These two are dems elected in red states. They know how to talk to republicans in a way that makes sense and I'm convinced there's a way for them to vote know and have their red constituents see that it isn't an ideological battle against conservatives but a personal decision about a single man's qualifications. I don't think it's a tiny needle to thread.

If Flake, Murkowski, and Collins vote no, that gives them cover to vote no. Also, frankly, I would think- at this point- there should be enough questions raised about Kavanaugh that it's not unreasonable for Trump to have to go back to the drawing board and pick somebody else. It *should* be an easy argument to make IMHO. My Senator- Donnelly- has already come out against him.

in this case a "majority" with at least 51 votes (vs the old 60 vote threshold). So it could theoretically fail cloture too. The GOP equivocators have a tendency to vote for cloture to allow it to go forward for debate though, even if it ends up failing in the final vote.

Absent Flake's call for an investigation into the sexual assault charges, this nomination was going through. Even Flake said if he wasn't a lame duck he would have voted for Kav and not insisted on an investigation. The perjury allegations have been in the air from the beginning and they didn't mean squat to him.

He's been cooped up in the rational world for weeks on this thing and he's got a lot of pent up rage to spew.

Agree that if it was still in play, this would push it over the edge.

But, IMHO, between Mitch, the botched FBI "investigation", and the media digging that it highlights the full range of issues with Kav...I think they know he's done. As a results, Trump's handlers decided they're not going to spend any more timeout points holding him at bay on this topic.

Either way, I hopeful that we wake up from this nightmare by week's end and we're on to the next shitstorm. Of maybe, we could refocus our attention on what is now being reported as 13,000 kids separated and being moved into more permanent temporary quarters. just WTF ???

If they have the votes to confirm Kavanaugh, they get a majority vote of destruction on the Supreme Court. Kavanaugh literally hates Democrats and women. His vote on the Supreme Court will hasten the destruction of our democracy.

If the Republicans fail to confirm Kavanaugh, they will use this as a rallying cry for the midterms. The message is clear - white men are under attack and their mothers, wives, sisters and daughters must rush to their defense. The emotional wave could suppress the blue wave.

Our only hope is to get out the vote for Democrats.

That is why the FBI is ending it’s investigation “early.” Trump and McConnell know this, and McConnell wants to keep the report from being disclosed to the public so he and Trump can attempt to make hay by blaming the Democrats in an effort to get the Republican vote out in the midterms. If I am right and the report is not released to the public, my hope is that some Dem, or maybe Flake, will have the balls to leak it (excuse me, but I can’t think of a better word right now).
