His father is a fundamentalist preacher of the Dominionist style. Cruz was told all his life that his brand of religion is the right one, and that he has been chosen by God for great things, because he is so special. Cruz is all about power and being the center of attention and sitting on top.

I was really surprised when he capitulated to Trumpism. Cruz (and Trump also) reminds me of the old saying, "pride goeth before a fall." Early voting in Texas begins Oct 22.
