It’s called nullification.

Treat it like a 4-4 tie and let the lower court ruling stand and be used.

No qualifier. No asterisk.

Fridays when the decisions are announced we'll have the Supreme Court beat reporter there as always, doing his/her best to quickly summarize which side won and what it means.

Brett Kavanaugh's name will seldom if ever come up. Maybe in the next few years on talk shows later that night, but eventually that fades, especially when another justice or two has been confirmed.

There is no such thing as Kavanaugh being harmed by this process and either his verdicts or the Court's verdicts somehow tainted as a result. That is short-term Happy Adjuster wanna believe. He becomes one of nine.
