Reminder: Mazie Hirono has Stage 4 kidney cancer while fighting for us.

She was diagnosed in May of 2017. John McCain was not the only one with Stage 4 cancer to vote No on the GOP attempt to repeal Obamacare last year. As this graphic from last year so succinctly put it:

She is currently getting immunotherapy treatment for it instead of chemo, so her hair is not falling out and she appears to be tolerating it well. http://amp.timeinc.net/time/5280460/mazie-hirono-senate-donald-trump  She has not let her Stage 4 cancer stop her from fighting for us.

So when you're feeling down, think you can't keep up the fight, think of Mazie. If she can drag herself out of bed to fight, so can we!

They may not be quite as heroic as Mazie, but there are plenty of strong Democrats running to unseat vile Republicans. We all need to VOTE for Democrats on Nov. 6!

One more example of the double standard for women vs. men. McCain's illness was reported on excessively, ad nauseum. If people on DU say they didn't know this, including me, I have to believe that no one in the mainstream media thought her vote was worthy enough to comment on.

My only disqualifier is that I rarely watch much mainstream TV, so maybe they did, but I would think someone on DU would have posted a link at one point or another.

and my heart goes out to her and any one with stage 4 cancer. My wife had no external symptoms until she began having pain in one of her ribs, then it went away. Then it kept coming back, only more intense, so she went to the hospital for a check up, and it was stage 4 cancer, which means it has spread to other places. She is fighting it with chemo and immuno-therapy and radiation.

Yet she flew to DC to vote, and to implore her colleagues to keep the ACA.

As the Time article I link to states:

Hirono has done all this while battling Stage 4 cancer, diagnosed in May 2017. In July she offered an emotional plea to protect President Obama’s health care law from a Republican-led repeal. “It’s hard for me to talk about this. I think you can tell. Give me a moment,” Hirono said in a speech from the Senate floor, delivered without prepared remarks. As her colleagues watched in silence, Hirono described being born at home in rural Japan, her sister’s death from pneumonia because the family didn’t have access to hospitals and a childhood spent living paycheck to paycheck. She then turned to the present. “I am fighting kidney cancer,” she said. “And I’m just so grateful that I had health insurance so that I could concentrate on the care that I needed rather than how the heck I was going to afford the care that was going to probably save my life.”

Very few people heard that speech. The media was more focused on McCain...and whatever crazy shit Trump happened to be saying at that moment.
