(11,686 posts)This is a clue of the dumbing down of people in the U.S. They were taught somewhere that voting does not matter.

(93,905 posts)it's nothing new. it would take something like a military draft or a law making voting mandatory to get a real change.

(6,732 posts)It's not a current generation thing, it's always been this way.
Most of it is because they're fairly detached from the real world at that time. They don't pay bills, they don't go grocery shopping, they don't have their own health insurance, they don't have to pay premiums, etc. It's not until they're in their 20s and start taking on more responsibility that they realize how much everything impacts them. I was the same way.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
