It takes 2/3 to convict so if the senate has 100 senators you need 66(67?) to convict. Does the VP play any role in this if the vote comes out on the edge?
I'm wondering what pence would do if he was the deciding vote on impeachment. I bet he'd vote for conviction.

No. The Vice-President, who is the President of the Senate, doesn't even preside...

If a vote is tied, the defendant is acquitted regardless.

There's no way that comes into play on a 2/3 vote.

67 needed if all Senators are present.
The Chief Justice sits as judge. I don't think the VP has a role at all.

A 66-34 vote isn't a tie.

over the Senate during impeachment - that role is given to the Chief Justice of the United States (currently John Roberts).

If they are close to 67, VP would not be a factor.
