how many votes they have to suppress, steal and have the Russian's help in order to retain their power base.
I wonder when the orders will go out to the Red States as to what their contribution to a win will be?
This is why we need to have historic turnout for this Midterm Election. More people ever to vote in a U.S. election in history. It's the only way to prevent the Repugs from manipulating this election to their advantage.
If things are close - it's easy for them to interfere. If we turn out in historic numbers - there is no way that they can come up with the votes underhandedly to win without being obvious.
So People - GOTV!!!! And encourage your family, friends, colleagues and neighbors to GOTV!!!!!

(12,265 posts)Uneducated white youth are by and large racist repugs. We need to encourage the young progressives to get out and vote, it is our only chance since the racists are dragging their kids to vote. I saw one drug to register as a republican a few weeks ago. It was frightening.

(32,083 posts)I hope that kid who was forced to register republican, and the others like him, vote against their parents' wishes out of spite. They'e at an age where they're prone to do that kind of thing just out of sheer rebelliousness.
redstatebluegirl
(12,265 posts)I was fortunate, my folks made voting a big deal, they took us with them. These kids don't have those role models.
bdamomma
(63,849 posts)my parents too, voting is nothing to poo poo on. I was so excited when I turned 18 to vote.
redstatebluegirl
(12,265 posts)They dressed like they were going to Church because it was IMPORTANT. My father always told us that the republic was depending on us to show up. That men and women fought against tyranny for us to be able to vote. It was VITAL! Loved my folks for showing me this, but we need to pass this on.

(11,914 posts)Unfortunately, we all considered it voting against grandmom (and it was).
Our youngest son will cast a vote in his first Federal election this Nov. 6th. If they're like they were in 2008 when our daughter cast her first vote, the poll workers will make a big deal out of it (ringing a bell, congrats all around, whoops).
Separation
(1,975 posts)That whole resentment issue goes both ways. I know for a fact that my daughter does not like being "preached to" about Trump or the myriad of other issues going on. She's like, "dad I know, I dont need it in my face 24/7."
She plans on voting, I dont know for who, because I wont ask. I do know she is a staunch opponent of abortion, but is very liberal in other areas. It's what I love about her. I have the picture of her coming out of the voting booth with a huge smile on her face the first time she was allowed to vote, sitting on my desk.
So be careful when talking to todays "kids". They dont like being told "what to do" even if it's in their best interest.
GoCubsGo
(32,083 posts)They don't like being told what to do. But, did you drag your daughter to register to vote, and force her to choose your party? No. You let her decide for herself. You aren't causing any resentment in her.
Separation
(1,975 posts)My daughter is in the camp of, it's a civic duty to vote. I do like believe she got some of her dad's thoughts of responsibility in her, but I know she is all her. 😊

(13,991 posts)I dont know why, exactly, but the young have never historically voted in large numbers. It would be nice if they turned out this November and bucked the trend.

(63,849 posts)but they need to stay off their phones or may be read online the NYT or something.
Turin_C3PO
(13,991 posts)But even before cell phones and the internet, the youth didnt turn out to vote. Im not sure why because these issues affect them more than anyone.

(12,265 posts)They lack communication skills by and large.
bdamomma
(63,849 posts)they lack communication skills but are savvy when it comes to the technical stuff. Good and bad points.
But there is some cynicism in society now they just need to do it. In other countries they don't have the rights to vote, it's not a privilege it's a right.
redstatebluegirl
(12,265 posts)They don't see the importance of a nut like Kavanaugh moving on the Supreme Court for 40 years.

(63,849 posts)we have to educate them on this. My kids or young adults already told me that they have to clean up this mess.
Separation
(1,975 posts)The youth have never really voted in the numbers that they should. I believe it has to do with them being young. Everything is about the now, it's why summers seemed to fly by when you were younger. They aren't deep thinking about the future because most of them barely have a past. It's not until we hit our 30 and even 40s that we really start worrying about our future. It's why when we are older we go, "jeebus, I cant believe Christmas is only a month and a half away!"
Turin_C3PO
(13,991 posts)expected turnout among the youth from 25% to 35% Democrats will absolutely destroy the Republicans in November. We would likely even take the Senate. Im doing all I can to convince my younger, Trump-hating friends to vote. Ive been successful with two so far; they voted early.

(12,265 posts)ONe of my husband's grad students was denied the ability to register in Oklahoma a few weeks ago. When I went back with her (a minority student by the way), she was allowed to register no issue. I made it clear I would go to the media if she had any issues since she had everything required to register.
Turin_C3PO
(13,991 posts)Its actions like that that will help us in November .
redstatebluegirl
(12,265 posts)She also wanted to register as a Democrat. When I went back with her, we intentionally went to the same window. I told the woman when we left that I had her name and had called the League of Women Voters about her conduct. My guess is she will be reprimanded but not lose her job since she was doing what they told her to do.
bdamomma

(14,150 posts)You better check her voter registration before the cut off date to register voters just in case they lose her registration and it never showed up in the system.
Maybe a photo copy of her voter registration card to prove the transaction was properly completed.

(48 posts)more bothered about the close race in Texas? I am reading a lot about suppressing votes. Maybe this time, they will be so blatant that Democrats can prosecute, or something. They have the SC, so maybe the Republicans truly feel they can do anything in 2018. We are in new territory, for sure.

(63,849 posts)on the news last night they were talking about Georgia, and in the Governor's race, some guy Kemp (repig) is also involved on the state level, is suppressing votes of the black people who filled out their registrations, cause he is running against Stacey Abrams

Stacey Abrams is running for Governor of Georgia in the 2018 Georgia gubernatorial election. In the Democratic primary she ran against Stacey Evans, another member of the Georgia House of Representatives. The media has referred to this as "the battle of the Staceys."

And yes, the main thing right now is to overwhelm them with votes. I am 1000% positive that we have the votes, if they would just stand up and be counted.
(although I'm not sure that would be true if the vote were restricted to white, landowning males...which is what baffles me about anyone who squanders their franchise.)
