I found a comparison to persuade an Independent to vote Democrat.

Long story short....I found an Independent that wasn't understanding why she should vote straight D starting locally. I told her that if she were running as a Republican that I would not be able to vote for her. As much as I liked her and trusted her I would NOT vote for her. She just looked at me with a shocked expression. I started by telling her that we just can't cut the head off the snake but we have to dismember the snake inch by inch. I used the old shoplifting comparison. When things get stolen from a store, we all pay for that item in one way or another. When you have rich people who avoid their taxes we all have to make up for that money in one way or another to make the country functional.

That is a 2 minute version of a 2 hour discussion.

I told her that she was the clearly more qualified candidate but that I couldn't vote for her because she was running as a Republican.

She told me that a Democrat couldn't be elected in our county. I told her she was correct and that was why I couldn't vote for her. Local politicians running as Republicans are empowering the racist, mysogynist Trumpsters.

I allowed I would vote for her if she would publicly and clearly denounce Trump. She said she couldn't do that because of fear of the Republican base. I reply that was why I couldn't vote for her.

Mine was only a 30-minute discussion.

It's one thing with just a person but a family member is another story. I probably would have said the same thing but it wouldn't have been so eloquent.

Edit: I am the only Dem in a very very large family that loves to antagonize me on that so they would have pushed my buttons and I would have gone off in a most ugly way.

The republic stands on a razor's edge. Trump and his supporters mean to undo everything for which this country stands. We have reached the point where you are either a patriot or you are not.

like Dirty Donny* and spawn-in-law JarJar KushArama and dozens of other rich republican a-holes who pay little or no taxes at all because they are "special" republicans.
