So Now We Know

The Republicans are pulling out all the stops. They are on a rampage to suppress as many votes as they can among those most likely to vote for Democrats.

In the doing, they are acknowledging one simple fact: They can’t win an election on the basis of their policies, their positions, their promises – and certainly not on their current track record. They cannot appeal to voters on the grounds of having made their lives better, because they haven’t.

They cannot win over the people whose lives they’ve put in jeopardy by taking away their healthcare coverage, or those who face losing their jobs due to Trump’s tariffs. They cannot lure the people who they’ve screwed into trusting them just one more time.

The GOP were counting on two things to win big in the midterms: the popularity of their “pResident” and their much-touted tax-cuts. As things have turned out, their “pResident” isn’t so popular, and the middle-class now know that those tax-cuts went to the wealthy while they were given crumbs.

The Republican “base” is now comprised of three groups: the hopelessly ill-informed who vote (R) no matter what, the brain-dead incapable of understanding that they’re being fucked over by the party they trusted, and the racists who will vote for anyone who promises to rid the country of everyone they don’t like.

And now we have Mitch McConnell explaining that the middle-class will have to accept the gutting of Medicare, Medicaid, and social security in order to pay down the debt his party created by giving tax breaks to the wealthy – talk about perfect timing.

And so the GOP have been left with no other alternative. The only way they can possibly stem the Blue Wave that threatens their hold on political power is to keep blue voters from being able to cast their ballots and have their votes counted.

The Republicans have now shown their hand – and it’s a losing hand. They have made it blatantly obvious that they know they can’t win unless they eliminate the competition, rather than defeat it at the polls. They have now admitted that they have nothing to offer the citizenry, and therefore have to ensure that the voting populace is – to every extent possible – narrowed down to those who buy into their bullshit.

When you can’t run – and hope to win – on what you’ve accomplished, it’s a sure sign that what you have achieved has done sweet fuck-all for those you are trying to appeal to. When you can’t run – and hope to win – on what you’ve done, it’s a clear sign that what you’ve done is unacceptable to those whose votes you need.

The soft underbelly of the GOP has now been exposed – and they’ve exposed it themselves. They can’t win in November without lying, cheating, and stealing the rights of those who oppose them. They can’t win by offering a viable alternative to a Democratic agenda. They can't win by giving the populace what they want and what they need - but only by ensuring that those who believe in Democratic ideals are prevented from voting for those who represent those ideals.

The GOP’s only hope of mitigating the damage they have done to themselves is by suppressing the votes of those who are living with that damage – those who are saddled with debt, those who will never get ahead due to GOP policies, those who don’t accept children being kidnapped from their parents and put into cages, those who have recognized that the Republican “president” is a Russian-colluding idiot willing to sell out his own country.

When your only hope of “winning” is the elimination of your opponents’ right to vote, you have admitted that you can’t win any other way.

You might want to step aside, so those of us who haven't can do what needs to be done.

GOP's self-inflicted wounds have forced it into a strategy of cheating and deception. This cannot be sustained unless we cease to be a nation under the Rule of Law and cease striving for equal protection under the law.

Your penultimate paragraph hammers the whole thing home.

Excellent.
