Of course, I didn't know at the time. But one of the things I learned about narcissism (once he turned on me) was that it isn't abuse during childhood that is thought to cause narcissism but rather the contrary. Though no one knows for sure it is thought that "special" treatment during childhood, usually by the mother, is what gives them an inflated sense of self.
