(15,139 posts)Bush was just the useful stooge - the genial front man for the evil cabal. Trump has the vocabulary of a 3rd grader, the attention span of a gnat, no curiosity, no critical thinking skills, and the temperament of a spoiled attention-seeking toddler. It's a close call, though. Both are dumbasses. Bush more in a frat boy towel snapping way; Trump in a runaway ego with delusions of grandeur way. Didn't think we'd ever sink lower than Bush. Trump is definite proof that Repukes like their Presidents to be stupid, just like them.

(35,075 posts)trump has been exposed as a liar numerous times. I don't see confidence, I see a con artist (carnival barker). My conclusion is that his true believers suffer from 1 or more mental illnesses--the deplorable wing is comprised of sociopaths and the Kanye West wing is comprised of decent people who have succumbed to serious mood disorders. BTW, I'm not disparaging mental illness--I've suffered from anxiety and depression at various points in my life as well.

(53,193 posts)President Camacho was able to make a course correction when he realized he was wrong; when Frito, Rita and the cameraman were able to get photos of the crops up on the Jumbotron, President Camacho halted the Rehabilitation, pardoned Joe and promoted him to vice president. Trump would have had Rita and Frito executed by bone saw for daring to interfere with an executive decision.
The essence of President Camacho is he was a good but uneducated man who innately knew how to motivate people. Watch the video you posted again: at the beginning of his address, the House of Representin' was ready to tear him from limb to limb; at the end of it, they would have walked through fire for him. The way he did things wouldn't have gone over well in 21st Century America, but it was very effective in the 26th Century.
The essence of Donald Trump is he's a man who's had every advantage in life and squandered them all in the pursuit of personal aggrandizement and wealth.

OK, very smart, the Wharton School of Finance, very good, very smart
you know, if you're a conservative Republican, if I were a liberal, if,
like, OK, if I ran as a liberal Democrat, they would say I'm one of the
smartest people anywhere in the worldit's true!but when you're a
conservative Republican they tryoh, do they do a numberthat's
why I always start off: Went to Wharton, was a good student, went
there, went there, did this, built a fortuneyou know I have to give my
like credentials all the time, because we're a little disadvantagedbut
you look at the nuclear deal, the thing that really bothers meit would
have been so easy, and it's not as important as these lives are (nuclear
is powerful; my uncle explained that to me many, many years ago, the
power and that was 35 years ago; he would explain the power of
what's going to happen and he was rightwho would have thought?),
but when you look at what's going on with the four prisonersnow it
used to be three, now it's fourbut when it was three and even now, I
would have said it's all in the messenger; fellas, and it is fellas because,
you know, they don't, they haven't figured that the women are smarter
right now than the men, so, you know, it's gonna take them about
another 150 yearsbut the Persians are great negotiators, the Iranians are great negotiators, so, and they, they just killed, they just killed us.

(58,724 posts)Maybe I am biased because the awfulness of the Bush presidency took a very specific and personal toll on me, but as far as I am concerned, he is still the stupidest and the worst of the presidents in my lifetime. If Trump lies us into a major war, then he may take over the crown, but as of now, it still goes to Bush in my view.

(10,478 posts)The man is dumb. Throughout his life he's hit on a few things that worked in his milieu and he just repeats them over and over. Reading the NYT investigation on his "rise" and the family's financial shenanigans, you see he learned quite young many of the tricks he employs in some form still. Like hinting that you are going to do something you have no intention of doing to try to manipulate people into doing what you want them to do. Apparently, he used to hint that he was going to dump a large amount of stock in order to manipulate stock prices. He never did dump the stock and didn't seem to have any real intention of doing so. He does a form of this almost weekly today. "I could [do something heinous] to [whoever] if they don't [do whatever I want]. We'll see." US Presidents don't throw their weight around like this, it's completely irresponsible and not something true leaders do. Does it work for him? Not really. Shooting someone on Fifth Ave. and getting away with it does not mean you are successful, smart, or a good President.
JHB
(38,211 posts)...how aggressively he applies himself to those qualities, yeah, he takes top spot.
And all the other contenders styled themselves as conservatives as reckoned by the standards of their day.
RobinA
(10,478 posts)to be completely fair, I am going to go with We don't really know. Must successful people who actually are stupid make it a big point not only not to flaunt their stupidity, but to keep it as quiet as possible, often employing other people to help sharpen the image. Trump, on the other hand, blares his stupidity all over the world every day. He makes no attempt to keep it on the down low or to get people to help him look like has a clue. So is it possible that there has been a stupider President? Possible. But I guess you have to figure if the other possible stupid Presidents were at least smart enough, or willing enough to listen to advice, to make an effort to look like they had a working brain, they were at least smarter than Trump, who obviously is not.
So yes, Trump is the stupidest President. See, I tried to be fair and balanced, but the conclusion was the same.

(63,221 posts)The problem is that he is a very stupid, ignorant man who is under the delusion that he is brilliant. Other presidents may not have been very bright, but they at least had enough intelligence to know their shortcomings and to surround themselves with wiser people and take their advice.
He is a very stupid man. Anyone can tell that by listening to him. It is obvious.

(255,525 posts)The chief job of a POTUS is to defend the Constitution and to make life better for the American people. He has no knowledge of history or the laws of the land and no regard for anyone else anywhere, including his fellow Americans. It's all about him and what he can get out of this to benefit himself. Those who don't share that vision, especially Democrats, are his enemies. And that is scary as hell.
