New York Times Endorsements: Candidates Who Can Help Take Back the House

Democrats in six races in New York and New Jersey can see their party restore good sense in Congress.

The Editorial Board of the NYT just endorsed Liuba Grechen Shirley! I've been working for Liuba since the June primary.

New York’s Second District, Long Island
Liuba Grechen Shirley, a spirited Democratic activist challenging a longtime Republican incumbent, Representative Peter King, is among the wave of women inspired to run by the election of Donald Trump.

snip================================

Ms. Grechen Shirley has a professional background in global development, working for the United Nations Foundation. That she is also a mother of two young children won her national attention this year when she persuaded the Federal Election Commission to let her spend campaign funds on child care, making her the first woman to do so.

snip=======================================

She supports Medicare for All, a federal minimum wage of $15 per hour and expanded funding for prekindergarten programs. She would also extend Temporary Protected Status to immigrants who fled disaster at home. That more welcoming approach would be a much needed change from Mr. King, who supported Mr. Trump’s so-called Muslim travel ban. Mr. King has also stirred anti-immigrant sentiment more generally, in his district and nationally.

My area in the NYC suburbs is going all out to support these 2 in their bids for Congress.

So much so that House Rep Nita Lowey's (17th CD - NY) campaign has personally chartered buses for the past 2 weekends for canvassers going up to Binghamton, NY to work on behalf of Brindisi.

We've also got carpools for canvassers working on behalf of Delgado.

In addition, we are also going all out in our support for democratic candidates for NY State Senate in the Hudson Valley:
James Skoufis - 39th
Pete Harckham - 40th
Karen Smythe - 41st
Jen Metzger - 42nd

Canvassing, phone banking, texting, postcards - hopefully it all adds up to a bluer Hudson Valley and NY State, and a real majority in the NY State Senate.

However, rest assured that the Indivisible chapters in Long Island are doing their part as reinforcements for the Democratic campaigns out there. Eleanor's Legacy also has a big presence.
